Another one bites the dust. For some, the chorus of fleeting Windows phone apps has become deafening as each new days brings another end to developer efforts for the platform.

Yesterday, I purchased Navigon Europe from Windows Market. When I tried to install the application, the app downloaded and was installed successfully, but when it asked me to download the maps (sized approx. 600MB), the mobile informed me that there was not enough space, although there were 900MB of free space available at the time. As Microsoft ended the support for Windows Phone, we decided to leave the platform with a heavy heart. Starting May 2018 it will no longer be possible to purchase the NAVIGON App incl. Navigation Maps free download - Maps - Navigate & Explore, Zoogly Counter-Strike Maps, Netscape Navigator, and many more programs. Unfortunately, today Windows phone users are waving goodbye to another developer and the app Navigon. The departure, according to NAVIGON developers, wasn’t mutual. At least based on the press release that’s come months after Microsoft put a bullet into its Windows Phone platform, the developers of NAVIGON were forced to end their efforts rather than exiting the app Store using the standard “use our Web App” as a blanket suggestion that graciously excuses the lack of users.

As of May 2018, the NAVIGON app and its additional packages will no longer be available for purchased. You can still use the app though and download it again as an existing customer.

For those who purchased of additional packages (e.g. FreshMaps) we will be within the license duration continue to deliver updates.

Now that Microsoft has finally peeled the band aid off the tragic Windows Phone situation, most users and developers are slowly moving on. For long time champions of the platform news of departing apps and skilled developers still land with a bit of a bite as many view potential unfulfilled.

Navigon has become the latest high profile app to leave the Windows Phone platform.

In a notice in the app, the GPS Navigation company announced their departure, blaming it on Microsoft officially stopping development of the platform.

Microsoft is expected to re-enter the smartphone market with a dual-screened hybrid phone/tablet which is expected to still run Windows Phone apps, but it seems when this device arrives it will be to a thoroughly depleted app store.
