I’d been after a channel strip emulator of the renowned SSL 4000 console that has legendary status since its introduction in 1987. I eventually settled on the Brainworx offering, mainly because I wasn’t getting on with the Waves plugins and also having to use their own Waves Central installer that controls all the plugins. It crashed at times (Windows 7). Slate Digital I would have gone to, but for the fact you need (at the time of writing) a physical USB iLok dongle to use it.
I’ve already started using this plugin on new tracks. All I can say is that I love what it can do to a sound. I added to a vocal channel (or bus) in one case and it just brought out some great sparkle and impact. Just that little extra 5% that makes a big difference.
Most other emulations model the newer G Series, and for that I use the Glue from Cytomic. Dgburns Brainworx have actually modeled the Brown and Orange knob EQs on these channel strips. They can be toggled with the EQ Type buttons. BTW If anyone is interested in buying these new bxSSL tools at $99 PM me. Bxconsole SSL 4000 E is different. It uses Brainworx’s proprietary, patent- pending Tolerance Modeling Technology (TMT) to accurately replicate individual component variations specified by the manufacturer and/or the original hardware designer. This creates, in separate instances of bxconsole SSL 4000.

The bx_console G has a Compressor/Limiter, full-featured Expander/Gate, 4-band Parametric EQ, and High Pass / Low Pass filters—with incredibly flexible signal routing between processors just like in the G Series analog console. It has a 72-channel emulation of the original SSL 4000 console and also includes some new, modern features such as the adjusting the compressor’s Dry / Wet control.
